The Answer to Fast Weight Loss

January 5th, 2010 Comments off

Weight loss is a huge problem but another problem is some people just don’t simply have the time for long step by step slow process programs and they want results now, not in several months. Well, sometimes the best results come from the simplest most modern things and this is a great example because exercising is the answer to fast weight loss and doesn’t require any expensive equipment or tutorial videos to complete, only two hands and two legs and a head.If you have all of the above listed, you can exercise and hardly have an excuse to not be in shape. One thing to remember is that if your muscles are burning and your out of breath after each and every work out then you’re on the right track because this is a sign of improvement and a sign you’ve worked and while it may not show results overnight, you will see results depending on how often you work out and how consistent you are with your exercises. Push yourself to the limits and when you think you can’t go any farther, you’re just not pushing hard enough. If you only put in 10 minutes a day then you’ll only see 10 minutes a day worth of results and in the long run you’ll wish you had worked out just a little longer and seen better results a lot quicker.Any type and amount of exercise is better than none at all and anything is a great start if you started out doing nothing but being a couch bum but if you want hard quick and fast weight loss results you have to bust your butt and kick the common laziness disease to the curb which most people seem to have when it comes to working out or staying fit period. When it comes to staying healthy or losing weight fast, this is just one of the many steps you can take.

Visualize Your Weight Loss

November 30th, 2009 Comments off

Weight loss goals are important. Your dreams of wearing a particular size or seeing a specific number on the scale are also important. Are these weight loss goals and dreams someplace that you can see them? Do you have a visual reminder of what you want? Take it out of your head and create a weight loss vision board.

A weight loss vision board is a great tool to consider a work in progress as you lose weight, get closer to your goal, change habits, experience successes along the way, or even photographs. You can put photos of you, pictures from magazines of a body that you’d like to achieve, meaningful words or pictures from magazines that inspire or motivate you. Anything that means something to you that will keep you focused and serve as a reminder of your weight loss goals can be placed on the board.

Take a photograph of yourself every month. As you lose weight, place the photos reflecting your progress of a smaller body size. Another tip is to wear the same clothes each month for the photo. Again, as you lose weight, you’ll see the clothes becoming loose and then baggy. This is another great way to keep motivated by seeing how far you’ve come.

Include a photograph of you at a smaller body size. Cut out a photo with a body size you’d like as your own goal. Place your face on that body for a very motivating visual.

If you want to exercise more aerobically or resistance training, cut out photographs that motivate you. They can be of someone with a toned body, someone exercising, hiking, walking or running, or any other photographs inspiring to you.

Make a graph of your starting weight and keep track of your progress. Show your goal weight as well so you see yourself moving closer and closer to it on your graph.

I have a client that has created her weight loss vision board. She hung it in her kitchen which has been a very effective way to stay on track. At times that she’s been tempted or even headed to the kitchen, she sees her weight loss vision board front and center. It has saved her from many extra calories and pounds, and kept her motivation and confidence high that she will achieve her weight loss goal.

Make a visual reminder of motivation and inspiration by creating your own weight loss vision board. Set up a visual center that update and change regularly as you lose weight. Have fun with it as you create it and update it to reflect your personal change and weight loss. Be creative; think big, think out of the box in whatever you place on your weight loss vision board. When it comes to any goals and success, see it to believe it. When you see it – you can be it!

5 Healthy Weight Loss Myths…and Why You Shouldn’t Believe Them!

November 22nd, 2009 Comments off

How many diet books have you read that promised a new, miraculous way to help you finally shed your extra pounds? Maybe it’s a little pill that is supposed to suppress your appetite or a fancy new piece of exercise equipment that people buy into because they are looking for an easy way out. The reason these fads never work is because cheaters never prosper in life, and you simply cannot have a healthy weight loss and keep it off for good overnight.

No matter how they masquerade it, the core of any successful healthy weight loss program always comes down to the same philosophy: live a healthy lifestyle. Proper nutrition combined with exercise on a daily basis is the winning combination. And yet, we still manage to screw it up. In an attempt to cut through all the obstacles, here is a list of the most common myths people believe that sabotage their healthy weight loss goals.

Healthy Weight Loss Myth #1: It doesn’t matter what you eat, as long as you eat less. If all foods were made the same, we would all be living on chocolate chip cookies and root beer floats. Unfortunately, the human body is complex and needs a variety of nutrients to work at its best. When you begin a diet by eating less calories than your body is used to, proper nutrition is a must. This becomes even more important when you add exercise into the mix.

If you want to achieve a healthy weight loss, your body needs to function as well as it possibly can. Taking a soy-based meal replacement shake and daily vitamin in addition to an healthy food choices and fitness regimen is how I not only lose 70 pounds 15 years ago, but I also was able to get off all my asthma medications. The body can perform miracles when you provide it with proper nutrition.

Healthy Weight Loss Myth #2: The less you eat, the better your results. If you are not getting enough calories, your body will use fat as fuel, but it can only do so much of this before serious breakdown happens in your muscles.,so you really need to stay above 1,200 calories. Since your body is complex, it kind of has a body has a mind of its own. If you deprive it of food long enough, it is going to panic and hold on to its emergency fuel supplies (fat) in hopes of riding out the difficult period of starvation.

Healthy Weight Loss Myth #3: High Proteins And Fats Are A Healthy Way To Lose Weight. Reducing your intake of carboydrates can be okay in moderation, but when you eliminate them completely you are cutting off your primary fuel source. Athletes and active people cannot function properly on this sort of a diet. So unless you plan on spending your time lying on the sofa watching tv, this approach won’t work. Exercise is extremely important and there is never going to be a way around that. Without it you might be able to lose weight but you will not look as healthy.

Healthy Weight Loss Myth #4: Fruits And Vegetables Are Bad This thought process comes from the whole glycemic index (GI) craze. GI proponents say that most fruits and vegetables are low in fiber but high in sugar, so they should be avoided. This is complete nonsense. First of all, eating fresh fruits and vegetables is what man evolved on for millions of years, and people were never fat until recently. Why would these natural foods all of a sudden be bad for you?

Too much of any one food can take it’s toll on the human body, but you don’t have to be a certified nutritionist to determine that a handful of grapes is 1,000 times healthier than a handful of potato chips. Fresh produce is loaded with vitamins and minerals, not to mention fiber. Go ahead and try to find an overweight person whose biggest indulgence is a banana. (Not dipped in chocolate, of course!)

Healthy Weight Loss Myth #5: Fat Free And Sugar Free Products Are HealthyAny fat free or sugar free version of your favorite junk food is nothing but a sneaky marketing ploy designed to cash in on another diet craze that did not work. Fat free does not mean sugar free and vice-versa. Cotton candy is fat free but people can not lose weight on it. Butter is sugar free but you would not want to eat it by the spoonful as part of a healthy weight loss program. A little common sense is required in order to lead a healthy lifestyle. Never judge a book (food) by it’s cover (package).

As soon as the next diet craze reveals itself, there will surely be another set of myths to dispel. There is no mystery behind healthy weight loss anymore, no matter how the next so called expert tries to repackage information you already know. For a truly healthy weight loss and maintenance thereafter, focus on creating a daily diet of a soy-based meal replacement shake, smart meal and snack choices that include fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains and lean protein…and of course, exercise.

Little Changes Add to Weight Loss, Part 4

November 18th, 2009 Comments off

This is another installment in our series of how little changes can add up to weight loss success. Just as a huge, luxury cruise ship turns in small increments to make an adjustment, so can you. One day you don’t eat a bag of cookies for dinner and then the next day expect to be satisfied eating nothing but vegetables. Extremes don’t work when it comes to making changes in your diet. Make small changes and adjustments to achieve a u-turn in your diet. As you accomplish one small change, add another successfully, and another, etc., you’ll find yourself moving forward with positive momentum. It is more than doable and before you know it, all these small changes equal to big success in your weight loss goals.

1. Instead of swimming in pools of fat, use flavorings. Butter, cream sauces, sugary sauces tend to encourage the mentality of the more the better. Some of my clients use these fatty items as pools that the food swims in rather than for flavoring. Flavorings such as salsa, hot sauce, Cajun seasonings. To keep your digestion and metabolism fires burning, these seasonings provide flavor without the fat and fewer calories. Adjust your taste buds to flavorings rather than pools of fat.

2. Stairs as exercise equipment. Who needs expensive exercise equipment or gym memberships? For only 10 minutes a day, walking up and down stairs will make a tremendous difference. For a 15-minute work break, you can spend only 10 minutes and have 5 to spare! According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), it takes only 10 minutes a day to help you lose as much as 10 pounds a year. 10 minutes a day for 10 pounds a year.

3. Skip e-mail or phone calls and walk it. The modern day conveniences of using the telephone and e-mail have made us more sedentary. Are you stuck at a desk all day? Get up and walk around the office or your home for five minutes per day for every two hours. A brisk five-minute walk every two hours will equal an extra 20-minute walk by the end of the day. How easy is that? An added benefit is that you’ll be less likely to find yourself in front of the vending machine out of boredom.

4. Balance your starch choice with vegetables. At your next meal, check out the proportion of your starch to your vegetables. For most of us that diet, carbohydrate choices are far larger portions than the portion of vegetables. To avoid a carbohydrate overload, eat an equal size portion of starch food choice to your vegetable choice. High fiber vegetables will satisfy your hunger before you overindulge in starchy foods.

5. To be smaller, order small. When you order a food item, order the small size. Order the smallest portion of everything. Jumbo, giant, super size, the bigger is better mentality do not result in a body size small. If you’re ordering a submarine sandwich, order the 6-inch rather than the 12 incher. We tend to each what’s in front of us even though we’d be satisfied on less. Think small to be small.

6. Drive past the drive thru. If you’re running short of time or just plain don’t feel like cooking, have a stash of healthy frozen dinners that have been created for weight loss. If you have problems with evening eating, you can use frozen dinners as well. Many of us tend to eat more in the evening than in the morning. An easy way to keep your evening eating and dinner meal is to buy a pre-portioned meal. You can supplement with vegetables and fruit.

It isn’t necessary to make big changes all at once to lose weight. Actually, smaller changes tend to build on the successes of each other. We’re less to feel overwhelmed by all the differences in our lives and give up. When you build a brick house, it is built a brick at a time. Build your own sturdy, solid foundation for weight loss, built one small change at a time.

nacks, that taste good too, can help us meet our daily nutritional needs. Children in particular need healthy snacks that provide the essential nutrients and satisfy their growing bodies. Healthy snacks add extra calories and nutrients to an athlete\’s diet without taking too much time to prepare or eat. Healthy snacks can give kids a boost, especially after school or going to and from activities.

Exercise is a part of a well-rounded lifestyle. No matter what type of activity you participate in, it is important to nourish your body with the right foods before and after you exercise. If you participate in sports, eating the right snacks after the big game can make all the difference to your body.

During any sporting event, whether intramural, or in your backyard, the muscles take a good beating. You feel good afterwards but that doesn\’t mean that your body isn\’t in need of some serious refueling. The body burns a lot of calories with each minute of play.

Perspiration is sticky and stinky at times but it is the body\’s way of cooling off. You lose vitamins and electrolytes through your sweat. These nutrients need to be put back so that the body can recover sufficiently. Recovery involves building stronger muscle fibers and restoring the chemical balance inside your body.

Healthy snacks are the way to go, for sure. But, you still need to be careful about the portions that your child consumes. Healthy snacks are the key to meeting their nutrient needs each day. Most kids need to eat every 2-3 hours to get in all the nutrients and calories they need to sustain adequate growth. Healthy snacks are (not just can be) an integral part of a healthy way of eating. Experience and science show that to maintain good levels of energy – without sharp peaks and valleys we should eat every three hours.

What you eat after a workout is just as important as what you eat before. Eating before consists of foods that will help you sustain a certain energy level during the game. That is mostly complex carbohydrates. After a game, your body is in repair mode and needs foods that will feed the effort. Here are five great ideas for healthy after-sport snacks:

1.Water doesn\’t seem like much of a snack but it is essential for the body to function properly. After a game, the body can be dehydrated depending on how much you sweat. Water is the pure way to get the body going and cooled off after so much activity. Adding a sugar-free flavor packet to the water is okay too.

2.High protein foods such as a piece of turkey breast on lettuce as a wrap or on a slice of whole grain bread. Protein is needed to repair the muscle and build it up again.

3.Certain fruits such as a banana. It is not especially sweet and it is full of potassium and carbohydrates. Foods that have a high carb count will supply the right type of energy to sustain you after a game.

4. Trail mix is also a good choice to add energy to your body. You\’ve just had fun and played hard so the body needs good things put back in. Nuts provide protein and healthy fats. Pretzels and legumes provide good carbs to keep you moving and not shaky after a sporting event.

5.Dairy products such as yogurt provide protein and other vitamins the body needs, including calcium. A cup of non-fat or low fat yogurt gives your system a boost.

Healthy party snacks provide energy all day long, while sugary or fatty snacks give you a quick energy rush but ultimately leave you feeling depleted. And if you give yourself a variety of choices, healthy snacking is never boring. Healthy snacking can be very beneficial. Not only will it help you reach your nutrition goals, but it can give you that extra energy to help keep you performing at your best.
